Excursions

River Dee Cruise
From moorings on The Groves in Chester we head south, passing some spectacular homes and gardens as we make our way out of the city and into leafy Cheshire countryside. Upstream of Chester, the River Dee meanders through the Eaton Estate, the ancestral home of the Duke of Westminster. We make our turn at the picturesque Aldford Iron Bridge and then sail back downstream to the city. This is a very tranquil stretch of the Dee with opportunities to spot wildlife, including swans, herons, cormorants, moorhens and kingfishers, so keep your camera ready! An informative sightseeing commentary will share interesting facts and stories about the river and its surroundings.

Anglesey & Beaumaris

A day trip to Anglesey and Beaumaris offers a perfect blend of history, scenery, and seaside charm. Crossing over the Menai Strait, the journey itself is beautiful, with sweeping views of the water and Snowdonia’s mountains in the distance. Anglesey is home to the village with the famously long name – Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Arriving in Beaumaris, visitors are welcomed by pastel-coloured Georgian houses, quaint streets, and a relaxed seaside atmosphere. The highlight of the town is Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Llanberis, Caernarfon & Conwy

Our day starts with a visit to Llanberis with its stunning lakeside location at the foot of Snowdon. Attractions include the lakeside Padarn Country Park and National Slate Museum. Later in the day we spend time in Caernarfon, home of the 13th century castle. We round off our day with a stop in Conwy with its medieval town walls (six and eight day holidays only).

Marlborough Hotel
A firm favourite with Eclipse customers, this property is ideally situated on South Parade near the main shopping centre. Originally Victorian, the hotel occupies a Grade II listed building. The architecture features classic Victorian/Italianate features: stucco façade, sash windows, some bay windows, a slate roof, chimneys, decorative cornices, etc. It has been modernised while keeping much of its character. There is a lovely bar and restaurant and the hotel offers regular live entertainment. There is a lift to all floors.
