Hastings is really three towns in one joined by a level promenade; the Old Town to the east, the bustling contemporary shopping Town Centre in the middle and St Leonards to the west featuring the classical elegance of James Burton’s architecture and the fashionable Norman Road – recently named as the new ‘Portobello Road-on sea’ by The Times` and offering a great collection of antique shops and vintage galleries. This new tour for 2018 offers a St Leonards base and time to explore Hastings and the surrounding area.
Holiday itinerary
Day one - Begin your holiday with an overnight stay in a quality hotel in the heart of England with dinner, bed and breakfast included.
Day two - Travel to St Leonards-On-Sea and arrive relaxed and refreshed at the Royal Victoria Hotel.
Day three - We spend the day at Eastbourne, the sunniest town in Great Britain and an award-winning holiday destination. Steeped in fascinating history, rich in natural splendour and blessed with four miles of clean beaches and warm sea – there is something for absolutely everyone in Eastbourne.
Day four - Enjoy a free day to explore everything that Hastings has to offer. Attractions include the Shipwreck Museum for tales of souls lost at sea, the Blue Reef Aquarium to get up close and personal with numerous sea creatures, see the site of the famous 1066 Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey and find out about the area’s links to 18th century smuggling at the Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Caves.
Day five - Morning excursion to Rye, reputed to be the best-preserved medieval town in the UK. The cobbled streets of Rye citadel is a photographer or artist’s dream. St Mary’s church tower (usually open to the public) offers the best viewpoint to show the terracotta roofs of the many timbered houses. In the afternoon we spend time in Camber, home to the only sand dune system in East Sussex, a stunning stretch of sandy beach providing the perfect get-away with unspoilt views of the sand and sea stretching for miles.
Day six - After a leisurely breakfast we set off on our journey home.

Royal Victoria Hotel - St Leonards-On-Sea
The Royal Victoria Hotel is situated on the seafront in the heart of St Leonards-On-Sea, just a brisk walk from Hastings with its cobbled streets in the Old Town, the Fisherman’s Museum on the Stade, the Smugglers Caves and the 1066 story at Hastings. The hotel was built in 1828 by architect James Burton and is filled with charming period features, antique furnishings and a breathtaking Grade II listed marble staircase with 22ft mirror, which leads to the Piano Lounge and Bar. The hotel received the Royal Charter from Queen Victoria, who visited on numerous occasions, and later again from King George V. As the focal point of St Leonards, it became a favourite rendezvous of the Royal Family and establishment. Hotel has a lift to some floors.
